Free Crypto Trading Journal Template (Google Sheets & Excel)

Most spot traders lose money slowly and never find out why. The exchange history shows green and red numbers, but it hides the three things that actually decide whether you keep your money: how much fees are eating, how big your average loss is compared to your average win, and whether your position sizes make sense.

This page gives you a free trading journal template that answers all three. It is a plain spreadsheet — Google Sheets and Excel — with a trade log that auto-calculates your fee-aware P&L, return % and R-multiple for every trade. No sign-up, no account, no subscription. The file lives in your own drive and your data stays yours.

Why keep a trading journal?

See your true win rate and profit factor

A 64% win rate feels great — until you notice your average loss is 2.3× your average win and one sloppy trade wipes out four disciplined ones. The journal shows win rate, average win/loss and profit factor side by side, so the number you brag about is the number that is actually true.

Spot how much fees cost you

On small spot trades, entry + exit fees and slippage routinely eat 30–40% of gross profit. A "+1.2% winner" can be a net loser. The template subtracts fees per trade, so your P&L stops being a fantasy.

Fix position sizing with R-multiple tracking

Every trade gets an R-multiple: net P&L divided by the risk you planned. After 20 trades, your average R tells you more about your future than any indicator. Negative average R with a high win rate means your sizing — not your entries — is the problem.

How to use it (step by step)

Step 1 — Make a copy / open in Excel

Download the .xlsx, then either open it in Excel or upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets (which converts it to your own editable copy).

Step 2 — Log your first trade

One row per trade, about two minutes: pair, side, entry, exit, quantity, fee. Do it right after the trade closes, while you still remember why you took it.

Step 3 — Read your numbers after 20 trades

Twenty trades is enough for the patterns to show: your real win rate, your fee drag, your average R. Fix the worst number first — that order matters more than any new strategy.

When to upgrade to the Pro version ($7)

FAQ

Does it work in Excel?

Yes — it is a standard .xlsx file. It also works in Google Sheets and LibreOffice.

Is it really free?

Yes. The free version is the full trade log with auto-calculated, fee-aware P&L. No email required, no trial timer.

Is my data private?

Completely. The sheet lives in your own Google account or on your own computer. Nothing is sent anywhere — there is no server and no tracking.

Journaling will not make you profitable by itself. But you cannot fix what you do not measure. Start with 20 trades.
